RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF DR. JAMES TERRY JENKINS

WHEREAS, Dr. James Terry Jenkins serves the education community, the administrators, teachers, students, and parents of Auburn City Schools as the Superintendent of Education from the year 2000 until present; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. James Terry Jenkins has been named Alabama’s 2005 Superintendent of the Year; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. James Terry Jenkins’ many honors include being named the 1998 Georgia Superintendent of the Year; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. James Terry Jenkins is not only a strong leader for the Auburn City School System, he is also currently serving as President-Elect of the School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA); and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. James Terry Jenkins has served as the Legislative Committee Chair for the SSA and the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS); and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. James Terry Jenkins will represent Alabama in the National Superintendent of the Year Program, sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and ARAMARK ServiceMaster Facility Services; and
 
WHEREAS, the National Superintendent of the Year winner will be announced during the AASA Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in late February; and
 
WHEREAS, nominations for the award were submitted from the regional districts of SSA membership to a committee of educators and representatives in the state; and
 
WHEREAS, the SSA represents superintendents and school system leaders statewide:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Dr. James Terry Jenkins for his distinguished service as Superintendent of Education for Auburn City Schools and for his years of service to the state of Alabama and its children and does hereby commend Dr. James Terry Jenkins for his many accomplishments and his dedication to public education; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its congratulations to Dr. James Terry Jenkins for being named Alabama’s 2005 Superintendent of the Year.
