RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NOVEMBER 14-20, 2004, AS AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK IN ALABAMA

WHEREAS, the National School Public Relations Association and other organizations have proclaimed November 14-20, 2004, as American Education Week; and
 
WHEREAS, the theme of the 83rd annual observance of American Education Week is “Celebrating the American Dream”; and
 
WHEREAS, the National Education Association and the American Legion co-sponsored the first American Education Week in 1921 for the purpose of informing the public of the accomplishments and needs of the public schools and to secure the cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs; and
 
WHEREAS, American Education Week promotes the cooperation and hard work of all education staff, parents, community members, and business people involved in achieving student success; and
 
WHEREAS, American Education Week is an excellent opportunity for Alabamians to renew and expand their support for public education, and for schools to connect with their communities:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby proclaim November 14-20, 2004, as American Education Week in Alabama and encourages local boards of education to participate in this celebration through activities that demonstrate to the public the importance of public education; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its appreciation to American Education Week sponsors including the U.S. Department of Education, the National Education Association, the National PTA, the American Legion, the American Association of School Administrators, the National School Boards Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the Council of Chief State School Officers, the National School Public Relations Association, the National Association of State Boards of Education, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
