ADOPTED RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MEMBERS OF THE 1998-99 ALABAMA STATE TEXTBOOK COMMITTEE FOR DILIGENCE OF SERVICE TO ALABAMA AND OUR SCHOOLCHILDREN

WHEREAS, the textbooks used in the state's 128 public school systems as well as in certain state special schools, are the mainstay of classroom instruction and are chosen through a democratic selection process; and
 
WHEREAS, proposed recommendations for adoption of textbooks in the areas of The Arts, Foreign Languages, and Social Studies, were presented by the State Textbook Committee to the State Board of Education for consideration; and
 
WHEREAS, membership of the State Textbook Committee is diverse, so that all segments of Alabama society are represented; and
 
WHEREAS, members of the Committee serve without compensation except for expenses, recognizing service on the Committee as a civic responsibility; and
 
WHEREAS, the 1998-99 State Textbook Committee met for 15 days in order to prepare recommendations for presentation to the Alabama State Board of Education; and
 
WHEREAS, the hard work of the State Textbook Committee resulted in the Committee's completing its duties in a timely and responsible manner:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education recognizes the 1998-99 State Textbook Committee for its diligence in serving Alabama and our schoolchildren, and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution is presented to the Committee with the sincere thanks and genuine appreciation of the Alabama State Board of Education; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution and a certificate of appreciation be presented to each member of the State Textbook Committee as an expression of this Board's appreciation of outstanding service.
