RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. ANN DOMINICK HARDIN, 1999-2000 ALABAMA STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Dominick Hardin, a teacher for 13 years, teaches fourth grade at South Shades Crest Elementary School in the Hoover City school system; and
 
WHEREAS, she has presented education-related numerous workshops in Alabama, St. Louis, MO; Baltimore, MD, Atlanta, GA, and Monterey, CA; and
 
WHEREAS, she is described as an “outstanding educator” at the national, state and local levels and her work with children in the area of mathematics is featured in professional literature with international circulation; and
 
WHEREAS, she has received numerous awards, including the State of Alabama’s Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Elementary Mathematics, the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Elementary Mathematics and the Birmingham Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” Award; and
 
WHEREAS, she strives constantly to instill in her students a love for mathematics by her “methods of teaching” in requiring students to analyze, compare and contrast, and make decisions about their solutions; and
 
WHEREAS, she has been named Elementary Teacher of the Year for her school, school system and State Board of Education District IV, and has been selected the Alabama State Teacher of the Year and Elementary Teacher of the Year for 1999-2000:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby recognize and commend Dr. Ann Dominick Hardin for her exemplary teaching career, her dedication to children and youth, her commitment to excellence and the recognition she has brought to the teaching profession for the benefit of students and teachers throughout Alabama.
