CONGRATULATING PATRICK LANE HILL ON HIS SELECTION AS THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS 2013-2014 ALABAMA MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

WHEREAS, Patrick Lane Hill, principal of Cullman Middle School in the Cullman City School System, was named the 2013-2014 Middle School Principal of the Year for Alabama by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals, and the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Lane Hill received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama, and Master’s degrees from the University of North Alabama and Auburn University, respectively, and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Lane Hill has served as an educator in Alabama for 25 years, 16 of which have been spent as an administrator; and

WHEREAS, through Patrick Lane Hill’s efforts, Cullman Middle School emphasizes academics, arts, and student activities to promote learning, health, and service; and

WHEREAS, also through Patrick Lane Hill’s efforts, all students have showed dramatic improvement in test scores (top 4 in ranking of students scoring Level IV proficiency on the ARMT statewide in 2011 and ranking as one of only two school systems in the state scoring in the top 5 in all nine 7th and 8th grade state testing categories in 2012); attendance has increased; and there has been a 66 percent decrease in discipline referrals since 2009; and

WHEREAS, each year, the National Association of Secondary School Principals congratulates principals from across the nation for their exemplary achievements by recognizing them in its Principal of the Year program; and

WHEREAS, the Principal of the Year program, established in 1993, honors outstanding secondary and middle level principals who ensure that America's students acquire a sound foundation for lifelong learning and achievement; and

WHEREAS, the program annually honors secondary and middle level school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students as well as demonstrating exemplary contributions to the profession; and

WHEREAS, secondary and middle level principals are nominated for this achievement by peers in their state and final selections are made by committees appointed by each of the National Association of Secondary School Principals' state affiliate offices:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby congratulate and commend Patrick Lane Hill on his selection as 2013-2014 Middle School Principal of the Year for Alabama by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals, and the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals.
