Search Adopted Resolutions:

REMOVING THE COOSA COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM FROM STATE FINANCIAL INTERVENTION

WHEREAS, under provisions of the Code of Alabama 1975, Section 16-6B-4, and the Alabama Administrative Code, Chapter 290-4-1, the Alabama State Board of Education voted on July 13, 2010, to authorize the Alabama State Department of Education to financially intervene in the Coosa County School System; and

WHEREAS, financial intervention has effectively stabilized the financial condition of the Coosa County School System; and

WHEREAS, the Coosa County School System has met the criteria established by the State Superintendent of Education and has maintained a positive fund balance for one fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, throughout the entire intervention period, the Coosa County School System has worked cooperatively with the state staff, and all recommendations from the state staff regarding fiscal issues have been implemented by the Coosa County School System and the central office staff; and

WHEREAS, changes on the restriction on sales tax were approved resulting in additional funds for general school operations; and

WHEREAS, under authority of the Code of Alabama 1975, Section 16-6B-4, the State Superintendent of Education recommends approval:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Education do hereby commend Mr. Dennis Sanford, Superintendent, the board members of the Coosa County School System, and the administrative staff for their cooperation and diligence in creating and maintaining fiscal responsibility and accountability in the Coosa County School System and also commend the state staff for working professionally with the Coosa County School System; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the State Superintendent of Education does hereby recommend that the Alabama State Board of Education release the Coosa County School System from state financial intervention effective today, October 10, 2013.
