Resolution Commending Ryusei Kawashima, Meadowview Elementary School, Selma City Schools, As The Second Place Winner (Grades K-5 Division) Of The Spotlight On Science 2000 Poster Award

WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education has proclaimed Spotlight on Science 2000 Week, a statewide program, October 19-27, 2000; and
 
WHEREAS, the Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama Science Teachers Association conducted the Spotlight on Science 2000 Poster Contest, August 14–September 7, 2000; and
 
WHEREAS, the Alabama Association of Presidential Awardees’ Leadership Conference, October 19, 2000, will serve as the venue where the new Spotlight on Science 2000 student poster spotlighting examples of "learning science through inquiry" will be unveiled and the nine student poster contest winners will be announced; and
 
WHEREAS, the Alabama Science Teachers Association will conduct its annual statewide convention for science teachers in Birmingham, October 19–21, 2000, at which the nine poster contest winners will receive their awards; and
 
WHEREAS, the Spotlight on Science 2000 Poster, will be on display during programs and events highlighting science education and the public schools in the State of Alabama during the week of October 23-27, 2000; and
 
WHEREAS, after an extensive selection process by a judging panel of science educators, arts education professionals and graphics art professionals, first place winners were chosen in the Spotlight on Science 2000 Poster Contest:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend Ryusei Kawashima, a student at Meadowview Elementary School in the Selma City School System, as the Second Place Winner in the Grades K-5 Division, of the Spotlight on Science 2000 Poster Contest.
