IN HONOR OF MR. FEAGIN JOHNSON JR. IN RECOGNITION OF YEARS OF SERVICE TO
THE ALABAMA STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
WHEREAS, Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2010, after 35 years of dedicated service to public education in Alabama, with 17 of these years with the Alabama State Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. has served as the Assistant State Superintendent for Instructional Services and has concurrently served as interim director of many of the key sections within the department; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. was a catalyst behind the work of instructional leadership across our state with primary responsibilities for the Superintendents Academy, Superintendent’s certification program, the teacher and leader evaluation programs, Federal Programs, Special Education Services, Curriculum and Instruction, Prevention and Support Services, Assessment and Accountability, and AMSTI; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. has served as Chamber of Commerce—Board of Directors and Vice President, School Superintendents of Alabama—Secretary/Treasurer, Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools—Board of Directors, Alabama Association for Curriculum Supervision, Air Force Association, Alabama National Guard Association, Kappa Alpha Psi—Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Auburn University Inservice Center—Board of Directors, Alabama Power Education Initiatives—Advisory Board Member, Montgomery First Tee—Board Member, Bullock County Chamber of Commerce—Vice President, Union Springs Recreation—Treasurer, First National Bank of Union Springs—Advisory Board, Bullock County Health Corporation—Vice President, and the YMCA—Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. has served in the military and retired as Lieutenant Colonel, during which time he has served as Director of Plans and Programs of the Alabama Air National Guard and served as Finance Specialist—Republic of Vietnam and 187th Tactical Fighter Wing, Military Pay Specialist, Human Relations Officer, and Chief of Social Actions—187th Tactical Fighter Wing, State Social Actions Officer—Headquarters, Alabama Air National Guard:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. for his dedication and distinguished service to the state of Alabama and its children and youth, and does hereby commend him for a life’s work in support of excellence in education and in support of great teachers and leaders being provided for all children; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its best wishes to Mr. Feagin Johnson Jr. and wishes him a joyous retirement.
