IN HONOR OF DR. ANN ROY MOORE, HUNTSVILLE CITY SCHOOL SYSTEM, ALABAMA’S 2008 SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore has served the education community, administrators, teachers, students, and parents of the Huntsville City School System as the Superintendent of Education since June 2001; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore has been named Alabama’s 2008 Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents of Alabama and will represent Alabama in the National Superintendent of the Year program at the American Association of School Administrators National Conference on Education in Tampa, February 14-17, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore served as Deputy Superintendent of the Huntsville City School System from March 1999 to June 2001, Assistant Superintendent of the Florence City School System from 1992 to 1999, and principal and teacher in the Huntsville and Florence City School Systems beginning in 1974; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore holds her Doctorate in Education from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, an Education Specialist and a Master’s degree from the University of North Alabama, and her Bachelor’s degree from Virginia’s Hampton University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore is held in the highest regard by her colleagues, is a proven superintendent who demonstrates compassion, leadership, and integrity as she leads the Huntsville City School System, and is admired for her ability to build consensus and remain calm under difficult circumstances; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore has provided statewide leadership on the Governor’s Congress on School Leadership, numerous Alabama Department of Education committees, the Executive and Professional Development Committees of School Superintendents of Alabama, and as District President and State Secretary of the School Superintendents of Alabama Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore is the recipient of the Rotary Vocational Excellence Award, a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County, and board member for HEALS, Inc., which operates school-based health clinics on the campuses of four Title I schools in Huntsville; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ann Roy Moore is a member of the American Association of School Administrators, Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools, National Alliance for Black School Educators, and National School Public Relations Association:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Dr. Ann Roy Moore for her distinguished service as Superintendent of Education for Huntsville City Schools and for her 33 years of service to the state of Alabama and its children and does hereby commend Dr. Ann Roy Moore for her many accomplishments and her dedication to public education; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its congratulations to Dr. Ann Roy Moore, Alabama’s 2008 Superintendent of the Year.
