RESOLUTION COMMENDING NANCY BEGGS FOR DEDICATED SERVICE TO PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA

WHEREAS, in June 1999 Nancy Beggs was appointed Director of Career Technical Education for the Alabama State Department of Education; and
 
WHEREAS, in the role of Director of Career Technical Education Nancy Beggs has, in an exemplary manner, served the state of Alabama, the education community, and the students of Alabama for eight years; and
 
WHEREAS, during her tenure with the Alabama State Department of Education every career technical education program in Alabama received Business Industry Certification (BIC), which is especially commendable because Alabama is the only state in the nation to require business industry certification of programs; and
 
WHEREAS, the BIC process in Alabama obtained International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9000:2000 certification, which is especially notable because Alabama is the only state in the nation to receive this quality assurance international certification; and
 
WHEREAS, during her tenure the Joint Leadership Development Conference (JLDC) was established to provide leadership activities for all student organizations—HOSA, SkillsUSA, TSA, FFA, FBLA, DECA, and FCCLA; and
 
WHEREAS, Nancy Beggs’ selfless dedication and commitment to K-12 education in Alabama provided many opportunities for her to impact public education by fostering partnerships and serving on local, state, and national industry and education boards, including the Alabama Workforce Investment Board, SkillsUSA National Board, and National Occupational Competency Testing Institute Board; and
 
WHEREAS, Nancy Beggs conducted the business of the Alabama State Department of Education with integrity, dedication, and empathy for her fellow educators; and
 
WHEREAS, Nancy Beggs has served in various other pivotal roles in the field of education, including Education Specialist and State VICA Director for the Alabama State Department of Education, and, most importantly, as a classroom teacher:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Nancy Beggs for her lifetime of dedicated and distinguished service to the state of Alabama and Alabama’s public school students, and does hereby commend Nancy Beggs for her lifelong work in support of excellence in education; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its best wishes to Nancy Beggs for a well deserved, long, and enjoyable retirement.
