RESOLUTION COMMENDING BOAZ MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR FIRST PLACE HONORS IN THE NATIONAL NUTRITION ADVISORY COUNCIL CONTEST

WHEREAS, the Nutrition Advisory Council of the Year contest jointly sponsored by the American School Food Service Association and Schwan’s Food Service provides an opportunity for nationally-chartered Nutrition Advisory Councils to showcase their school and community involvement; and
 
WHEREAS, Boaz Middle School in the Marshall County School System was selected as Alabama’s winning council and as the national grand prize winner from among entries from 35 states; and
 
WHEREAS, Boaz Middle School’s selection was the culmination of a year’s school and community activities reaching preschool- and school-age children, parents, educators, administrators and the elderly; and
 
WHEREAS, students Tara Philips, Lindsey Lingerfelt, Kristin Payne, Monica Richardson, Stevi Stephens and Laura Shaw represented the 19 members of Boaz Middle School’s Nutrition Advisory Council on a trip with their NAC advisor and Child Nutrition Program Manager, Eunice Bryant, to the American School Food Service Association National Conference in Denver, Colorado, for a leadership training seminar, tours and educational activities for their selection as Nutrition Advisory Council of the Year; and
 
WHEREAS, the other members of the Nutrition Advisory Council – Rickey Clanton, Jessica Giddens, Anna Potridge, Selena Warpool, Anna Dooley, Holley Hooks, Kimberly Johnson, Carey Kennedy, Jenny Knott, Clint Lowery, Seth Noojin, Jennifer Snellings and Josh Strusz – were also involved in the project that earned this prestigious national recognition:
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend the Boaz Middle School Nutrition Advisory Council for its selection as Nutrition Advisory Council of the Year.
