IN RECOGNITION OF STEPHANIE CHASE LEGRONE,
MARY G. MONTGOMERY HIGH SCHOOL,
MOBILE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM
2009 MILKEN FAMILY FOUNDATION NATIONAL EDUCATOR AWARD

WHEREAS, the Alabama State Board of Education supports efforts to reward Alabama’s outstanding educators for their contributions to the educational experiences of Alabama’s students; and

WHEREAS, the Milken Family Foundation and the Alabama Department of Education provide Alabama teachers the opportunity to participate in the National Educator Awards; and

WHEREAS, the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards were first presented in 1987 to acknowledge educators’ crucial contributions to our national well-being and to provide public recognition and financial rewards to talented elementary and secondary educators; and

WHEREAS, in 2009 over 50 top educators across the country were awarded up to $1.3 million; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Stephanie Chase LeGrone is one of two educators in Alabama selected to receive this prestigious award in honor of her efforts on behalf of the nation’s schoolchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Stephanie Chase LeGrone, a science teacher at Mary G. Montgomery High School in the Mobile County School System, is an outstanding chemistry teacher who strives to have her students ready for chemistry at the college level; and

WHEREAS, eighty-one percent of Mrs. Stephanie Chase LeGrone’s Advanced Placement students earned college credit, and she is described by her principal as one who uses a variety of technology resources to enhance student learning including PowerPoint lessons, on-line practice quizzes, and podcasting:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend Mrs. Stephanie Chase LeGrone for achieving this prestigious honor and becoming Alabama’s 27th National Educator; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby commend Mr. George Romano, Principal of Mary G. Montgomery High School, and Dr. Roy D. Nichols, Superintendent of the Mobile County School System, for their support of Mrs. Stephanie Chase LeGrone.
