RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF DR. WAYNE RAY SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray has served the education community, the administrators, teachers, students, and parents of the Russellville City School System as the Superintendent of Education since 2000; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray has been named Alabama’s 2007 Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents of Alabama and will represent Alabama for National Superintendent of the Year, which will be announced on March 2, 2007, at the American Association of School Administrators Annual Conference in New Orleans; and

WHEREAS, the School Superintendents of Alabama represents superintendents and school system leaders around the state and is an affiliate of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools and the state affiliate for the American Association of School Administrators; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray served the Russellville City School System as Assistant Superintendent from 1993-2000, Principal of Russellville High School from 1977-1993, and Assistant Principal from 1970-1977; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray holds his doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from Mississippi State University; his Ed.S. in Administration and his Class AA Certificate in Administration from the University of North Alabama; and his master’s, bachelor’s, and Class A Certification in Administration from Florence State University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray has touched thousands of lives as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent, and his leadership has been instrumental in the success of the Russellville City School System; and

WHEREAS, in 2005 under Dr. Wayne Ray’s leadership, the Russellville City School System was one of only eight school systems in Alabama to have every school make AYP and the first Alabama school system to have 100 percent of its faculty deemed highly qualified; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray is active statewide serving as District President for area superintendents and representing them on the Board of the School Superintendents of Alabama to impact public policy and promote positive improvements for public schools; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray is described by his peers as possessing the highest character, integrity, and dedication; a model of professionalism; and an excellent example of what a superintendent of schools should be; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne Ray believes in success for every child and believes that schools should continue to be the hub of the community, providing opportunities for every child to have a better future through a quality education:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Dr. Wayne Ray for his distinguished service as Superintendent of Education for Russellville City School System and for his 41 years of service to the state of Alabama and its children and does hereby commend Dr. Wayne Ray for his many accomplishments and his dedication to public education; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its congratulations to Dr. Wayne Ray, Alabama’s 2007 Superintendent of the Year.
