Search Adopted Resolutions:


WHEREAS, the National School Public Relations Association and other organizations have proclaimed November 12-18, 2006, as American Education Week; and

WHEREAS, the theme of the 85th annual observance of American Education Week is “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility”; and

WHEREAS, the National Education Association and the American Legion co-sponsored the first American Education Week in 1921 for the purpose of informing the public of the accomplishments and needs of the public schools and to secure the cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs; and

WHEREAS, American Education Week promotes the cooperation and hard work of all education staff, parents, community members, and business people involved in achieving student success; and

WHEREAS, American Education Week is an excellent opportunity for Alabamians to renew and expand their support for public education and for schools to connect with their communities:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby proclaim November 12-18, 2006, as American Education Week in Alabama and encourages local boards of education to participate in this celebration through activities that demonstrate to the public the importance of public education; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its appreciation to American Education Week sponsors including the U.S. Department of Education, National Education Association, National PTA, American Legion, American Association of School Administrators, National School Boards Association, American Federation of Teachers, American School Counselors Association, Council of Chief State School Officers, National School Public Relations Association, National Association of State Boards of Education, National Association of Elementary School Principals, and National Association of Secondary School Principals.
