RESOLUTION IN HONOR OF DR. HAROLD W. DODGE
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold W. Dodge has served the education community, the administrators, teachers, students, and parents of Mobile County Schools as the Superintendent of Education since 1998; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold W. Dodge has been named Alabama’s 2006 Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) and will represent Alabama in the National Superintendent of the Year Program, which will be announced during the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) Annual Conference in San Diego, California, in late February; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold W. Dodge, who previously served as Superintendent of Virginia’s Cumberland County Schools and Montgomery County Schools and University City Schools in Missouri, is a strong leader for the Mobile County Schools, the largest school system in Alabama with an enrollment of 66,000; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold W. Dodge is highly respected and is an active member of the SSA board and works with superintendents across the state to impact public policy and to promote positive improvements for public schools; and
WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments, Dr. Harold W. Dodge spearheaded the district’s crisis response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster, caring for their own children while welcoming over 800 displaced students from Mississippi and Louisiana, and miraculously missing only nine school days despite sustaining more than $35 million in damages:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby express its gratitude to Dr. Harold W. Dodge for his distinguished service as Superintendent of Education for Mobile County Schools and for his years of service to the state of Alabama and its children and does hereby commend Dr. Harold W. Dodge for his many accomplishments and his dedication to public education; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Alabama State Board of Education does hereby extend its congratulations to Dr. Harold W. Dodge for being named Alabama’s 2006 Superintendent of the Year.
